COTABATO CITY,
Maguindanao, Philippines -- A Malaysian leader
reiterated his country’s commitment to help
Mindanao find lasting peace.
Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Mhod
Najib bin tun Haji Mohammad Abdul Razak gave
this assurance to local officials and the
50-member Malaysian military officers in a
meeting with them.
The Malaysian officers are part of an
international team monitoring the ceasefire
between the government and the Moro Islamic
Liberation Front (MILF).
Speaking before the officials led by Vice
President Noli de Castro and Executive Secretary
Eduardo Ermita, Najib said Malaysia would like
to see the Mindanao peace process as an example
"that two Asian nations can bring peace in this
part of the world."
Najib, concurrently Malaysia's foreign
minister, urged the Philippine government and
the MILF to continue pursuing dialogues,
stressing this was the only way to peace.
