THE MILITARY is upbeat on the prospects of peace
talks between the government and the Muslim
separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF),
saying “no problems” with the ceasefire in
Mindanao have been encountered so far.
Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant
General Efren Abu, citing the assessment of
international ceasefire monitors, said the MILF
had been “very cooperative.”
“The ceasefire is going very well. There have
been no problems so far,” Abu told reporters in
Camp Aguinaldo.
Abu added that recent skirmishes in
Mamasapano town, Maguindanao province were due
to a “family feud,” not tension between
government and rebel troops.
The Chief of Staff spokes to the press after
meeting with officials of the Royal Brunei Armed
Forces, who will join the ceasefire monitors
later Wednesday.
