ZAMBOANGA CITY — Government
forces and the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation
Front (MILF) are ready to provide security to
members of the International Monitoring Team (IMT)
who will serve as the neutral force that will
observe the implementation of the ceasefire,
official said yesterday.
Brig. Gen. Alexander Yano, chief of the GRP
Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostility
(CCCH), said that the IMT is composed of Malaysian
forces and are expected to arrive next week or late
this month.
The Advance Administrative and Logistic Team (AALT)
of the IMT had just completed the inspection of the
site where the team would be based for the duration
of the monitoring of the ceasefire between the
military and the MILF.
The AALT-IMT was sent in advance to inspect the
administrative requirements of the IMT proposed
headquarters.
"The security for the IMT was specificed under the
terms of reference (TOR)," Yano said.
But Yano could not say yet the number of the IMT
main body who will be deployed to the designated
areas in Mindanao.
The MILF has announced that it is ready to provide
the needed security for the IMT during their tour of
duty.
In a statement, Mohagher Iqbal, chair of the MILF
Peace Panel, said the TOR of the IMT provides
security arrangement for the IMT members.
The TOR was signed on Sept. 8, 2004 in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia with the GRP, MILF and the Government of
Malaysia as signatories, Iqbal said.
The IMT would be deployed to Cotabato City,
Zamboanga City, General Santos City, Davao City and
Iligan City. |
